Riveted Grandparent Series

Sieving through boxes of timeworn photographs belonging to my grandparents initiated the development of this series of works. There grew a progression of ideas: memory, absence and presence. This was a way of coping with the loss of another grandparent: the loss of times past.

The digitalized layers of the photographs in these pieces represent the contours in maps and overlay etched images of our family farm from the 1930’s. Each piece is a representation, a mapping, of family history. The building of histories and layers penetrates through all the heartache connecting the wearer, me, by adding another layer to a family history.
